H is for Headware

Having recently been to the Anthology of Hats exhibition at the Victoria and Albert museum, I have a new found love of Hats. The exhibition is full of a variety of head gear, from conservative pieces to flamboyant head paraphernalia.

I think headwear is a great way to update an outfit; during the day I would go for a snazzy hair band and at night I think a hair piece worn at a jaunty angle is a must. A full on hat is also more of a day wear item unless it is winter in which case whenever and whatever will keep you warm. My hat of choice would be a bowler in a deep purple. I would also love to own Blair Waldorf from GG's head band wardrobe. big chunky bands mixed with antique headpieces.

Anyway, no matter how you wear them or what you wear, hats are always going to be top on my list. I would love to study millnery one day and make my own extravagant pieces. In the mean time the V&A are selling some amazing hat pins, fasinators and hats which are definately worth a look. I have my eye on some sequin bauble pieces.

G is for Gorgeously green

Fashion and being a friend to the environment etc CAN go hand in hand. More and More eco-friendly fashion brands are popping up in the mainstream. Clothes made from organic cotton or hemp no longer resemble potatoe sacks they can be fun and dare I say it stylish. Another misconception about eco-friendly clothing is that it is quite costly, nah huh!!! Selfridges may be home to MADE or EDEN, but you can also find other labels at highstreet retailers like Topshop and Urban Outfitters. Both retailers also do their bit to recycle clothing as they house their fair share of vintage pieces at affordable prices.

Along with being green, fairtrade is also an option. I felt a great glow of being a do gooder after buying a stylish white fairtrade tunic from Topshop. I will team it with a blazer, bold necklace, chunky belt and pumps for a funky yet casual look!

Whether Eco or Fairtrade its definately something to think about!!

F is for Forever pieces

Forever pieces are the new must-haves. A forever piece can be anything from a well cut pair of trousers to a timeless item of jewellery. A good quality fashion product that will last for many years to come is always worth spending a bit more money on. I do not have a large monthly clothing budget, but I have begun buying less items and spending a bit more on those classic pieces which I know will see me through to the next season. When I say classic, I don't mean a white t-shirt or other synonymous items of clothing, I mean looking ahead to the following season and seeing what trends will continue/develop further. For example, I will be investing in some tribal/ graphic print tops and dresses because that trend is set to continue. (See image left from Marc by Marc Jacobs AW09/10 show). In the summer I will do the look with bare legs or shorts and come winter it will be all about black tights, and a tailored jacket.

I think investing in jewellery is always a safe bet, because the changes tend to be more subtle, you can get away with the same ring for a couple of seasons. But on the flip side jewellery can aso be very directional and so it is worth spending less and making that black t-shirt on trend with a big chunky tribal necklace.

It can be tricky to know what to buy when it comes to forever pieces but you have to ask yourself, am I going to wear it to death, and will it see me thought the next couple of seasons!!!

Well there's my advice, fashionistas. Keep it glamourous!!!

E is for Economize

With the credit crunch hitting the nation and world at large, economising is something that every fashionista is going to have to deal with. I think it is a great opportunity to put your stylising skills to good use.

Rather than shopping on the highstreet, try shopping in your wardrobe. Mixing it up is really fun, putting things together that you would not normally think about is often a great way to express your self and find out your true style.

At the moment I have been playing with dresses and cardigans/ layering tops. Mixing printed cardies and patterned tea dresses together is fab, and ties in with the tribal/ one world trend that is soooo hot for S/S 2009. Add a hairband from a scrap of material and you are fashion a go go.

Even Celebs are recycling their wardrobes.

If you are going to buy fashion items, I think accessories are the way to go, it is suprising to see how a pair of earrings or a necklace can update a look. Coral and royal blue are so now, so those are the colours to go for.

Economy footwear can only mean two things ballet pumps or plimpsols. Black, white and gray plimpsols are budget and versatile. Ballet pumps should be in animal prints; leopard, tiger,snakeskin from Newlook, Primark and Dotty P's.

Have fun with it, find the real you. Punk is definately having a revival, only this time its more refined.

So what's G'wan!

It's been a while since my last post, mainly because I forgot my password!!! I would like to say that since my last blog I have got my dream job, but alas I have not. With the current economic climate I am lucky to have a job I guess. However this hasn't stopped me coveting the new S/S 2009 trends and bitterly cursing my lack of funds.

I have decided that I am going to do everything in my power to earn some extra money, so i have turned to ebay. I am currently selling a small hot pink Miu Miu clutch purse that I have had for almost a year and never worn. I brought it in New York, as my first designer purchase from Bloomingdales. Although I love the purse I am hoping to upscale to something more sizeable. Fingers crossed, this could be the beginning of a great business.

In the meantime I will continue to lust over the new beautiful Louis Vuitton tassel sandles!!! They are truly beautiful.

I'll be back soon, with the next letter in the alphabet.

You know you love me, right! PS is anyone watching the new series of Gossip Girl (S2) I am hooked. The fashion quota has reached a whole new level, Alexander McQueen, Philip Lim, D&G... the list goes on.

Much to do about nothing ...

Finding time to blog seems to be a struggle at the moment. In between searching for a new Job and also trying to be good at my current job is ridiculous (excuse spelling). Anyway while i've got a couple of minutes, I'd like to mention how impressed I am with the array of tights available this winter esp. as the cold weather appears to have come to stay. My favourites at the moment are a great pair of thick ribbed grey tights from H&M. They are prefect for this weather, wear with a fantastic dress or skirt, or if you are brave enough so funky tweed shorts.

The only good thing about this cold weather is a chance to give the coat wardrobe a good airing. At the moment I am rotating three coats. A 1960's double breasted blue coat circa 2006 (Topshop) a plum coloured cape, last years from Warehouse, and my delightful violet peacoat with pussy bow from Primark (this years). I particularly love the last coat mentioned, because not only was it a bargain at £21 (I saw a similar versionat French connection for £140) but I have had many a compliment while wearing the coat. I love it dearly.

Scarfs and hats are also becoming a major concern I am mixing and matching at the moment, lots of bright colours on mass. I think this is working at the moment, but I do love the matching look.

I am also very much considering a foray into faux fur, I have seen some great coats at Topshop which are to die for. I think that it is probably a look that is passable in london, but not elsewhere. We shall see though...

Its been a while

Hello anyone in cyber space who may or may not be reading my blog. I am interrupting my fashion alphabet for a quick catch up. When I say cath up, not much has happened. I'm still struggling as a Buying Administrator, pyning for the big leagues. I have an interview on friday which I am really excited about. Its two hours long which is a bit lengthy, but I am going to try and nail this, because I bored of my job. The job is in the men's wear department which is going to be different but it would be a great opportunity to meet some men, hopefully? Although they might all be gay.

I would really like to get the job, although the pay won't be much better its still another chance to do it right this time, and hopefully get on that ladder.

Anyway, enough about my life. Apart from needing a boyfriend, and a new job, I also need a black lace dress. My wardrobe is over run with black dress for a night out, but I need more. The beauty I am after is from Topshop; priced at £45 I want it, I want it, I want it. Unfortunately I don't believe my bank manager will agree with me that it is an important purchase.

My rant is at an end, but remember guys its all about the black lace and Gossip Girl, I brought the Season 1 box set and I am once again addicted. You know u love me XOXO
